The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia is an exhaustive classic Biblical encyclopedia consisting of 5 paper volumes. This bastion of knowledge is now available in one beautifully formatted book for the Kindle. The Kindle edition works as any other Kindle dictionary and may be set as the Kindle default dictionary.

The ISBE includes almost 10,000 thoroughly written authoritative articles representing the scholarship of nearly 200 evangelical scholars.

In harmony with the practical and authoritative character of the Encyclopedia the greatest pains were taken by the authors to secure comprehensiveness and completeness in its presentation of all Biblical matters, and in its fullness of typical Scriptural references on all subjects dealt with. In scope the work embraces the Old and New Testaments and the Apocrypha, together with all related subjects of Language, Text, Literature (apocalyptic, apocryphal, sub-apostolic, etc.), Archeology, historical and religious environment—whatever, in short, may throw light on the meaning and message of the sacred Book. The aim was that nothing great or small conducing to this end was to be omitted. History of peoples and religions, Ethnology, Geography, Topography, Biography, Arts and Crafts, Manners and Customs, Family Life, Natural History, Agriculture, War, Shipping, Ritual, Laws, Sects, Music, and all else pertaining to the outer and inner life of the people of the Bible, and therefore throwing light upon the meaning of the original writers, are amply and minutely treated. Proper names are explained and their occurrences in the Bible and Apocrypha noted. Large space was devoted to the meanings and uses of the more ordinary, as well as of rarer and obsolete, English words with special reference to their Hebrew and Greek originals and to the variations of usage in the King James/Authorized Version and the Revised Versions. Careful attention was given to the figurative uses of words in connection with all subjects where such uses occur.

The Kindle edition incorporates a cross-reference system between the articles and the included King James Bible, which makes it easy to navigate a huge amount of scholarly information and read the Scripture.

No maps or illustrations are included in this Kindle edition. Also note that Kindle Fire does not support the dictionary format.

The ISBE is a required reference book for the Kindle library of any serious student of the Bible.

This is a new generation of translation dictionary Kindle devices.

The Babelpoint dictionary recognises and translates all inflected verbs, adjectives and nouns (verb forms, plurals, comparatives, etc.) – for example show, shows, showing, shown. It also contains phrasal verbs such as show up, show down, show in, show out, show off. Position your Kindle cursor by a word and a small, neat pop-up panel appears at the top or bottom of the screen, displaying the possible translations. Press the ‘OK’ button to flip to a full screen that shows the entire word definition, and back to your page, instantaneously.

You can use the Babelpoint dictionary with all your English kindle books, now and in the future.

On the full screen you see the full details of each specific word. The full definition page of the dictionary is very clear and offers you: not only just translations, but also , transliterations, word forms, phrasal verbs and other relevant information. 2. Each word is shown with an abbreviation for its part of speech:

abb = abbreviation
adj = adjective
adv = adverb
art = article
conj = conjunction
interj = interjection
ecl = exclamation
n = English noun
f = feminine noun
m = masculine noun
loc = phrase
v = verb
phr v = phrasal verb

3. We give you additional information for more than 50,000 words:
-For adjectives: comparatives and superlatives forms (with ‘big’ we show ‘bigger’ and ‘biggest’)
-For nouns: plural (with ‘man’ we show ‘men’)
-For verbs: past simple and past participle forms and phrasal verbs. Kindle’s own software can handle only single words. That means that dictionaries have to translate one word at a time. For example if you read the phrasal verb ‘wait for’ you will be able to select and translate either the verb ‘wait’ or the preposition ‘for’. The Babelpoint dictionary gets around this problem by showing you all phrasal verbs as additional information, and you can click on them there to get to a translation of the whole phrasal verb.

The next screenshots show you examples of results:

‘sent’ is the simple past form of the verb ‘send’, so the Babelpoint dictionary gives you the translations of ‘send’. The dictionary finds the right translation whatever form the verb appears in.

‘Sounds’ is the plural form of ‘sound’. The dictionary can find the right translation for you automatically – you don’t have to take off the ‘s’ and do the search yourself.

The dictionary handles the comparative (eg ‘older’) and superlative (eg ‘oldest’) forms of all adjectives. If one of the forms does not have translations, you get the translation of the main form.

The dictionary contains thousands of translations for compounds. They can be found only by browsing the dictionary (Kindle software does not currently support the look-up of compounds). Many compounds have the IPA transliteration and field of use – in this case, (Jur.), which indicates that it’s a = legal term.

First, when you click on Go to in the menu, you have the option of selecting Table of Contents. This Table of Contents provides hyperlinks to each letter of the dictionary along with the range of Strong’s numbers for that letter. Clicking on a link to a letter provides a list of options for the first two letters of the word as well as the range of Strong’s numbers for that letter combination. Once you click on the desired two-letter combination, you can flip the page to get to the desired entry if need be.

Second, when you are reading, clicking the 5-way controller to the right will advance you to the hyperlinked list for the next letter of the alphabet. Clicking the 5-way controller to the left does similarly.

Third, you can navigate directly to a particular glossary entry by clicking on Index in the menu and typing in the letter “h” followed by the Strong’s number for that entry. For example, to navigate to the entry for Strong’s #1234, simply type “h1234″ into the text box and hit enter. This option is not available on first generation Kindles and might not be available on Kindle applications.

Fourth, you can navigate directly to a particular glossary entry by clicking on Index in the menu and typing in the Hebrew/Aramaic word using transliterated Hebrew, using just the consonants. Please note that the transliteration scheme for this navigation option is found in the table below and is different than Strong’s transliteration scheme displayed in the e-book. This is so that all Hebrew consonants can be presented as single characters and adequately distinguished without diacritics. This option is intended for advanced users. For example, to navigate to the entry for Strong’s #1121, ben, simply type “bn” after clicking on Index and hit enter. This will take you to the appropriate entry. This option is not available on first generation Kindles and might not be available on Kindle applications.

I really liked this book and it is a keeper. It exhibits the dilemma of letting go of what you know and embracing the opportunity for love and happiness. It is very well written and constructed. The characters mature nicely throughout this book. You can easily visualize what you are reading.
The dialogue is easy to understand. There is a lot of tension and conflict between Lucas and Amy. Lucas’ father wanted his son to find happiness and love. Lucas wasn’t ready for any type of change in his life. Lucas liked living with no attachments and wanted to keep it that way, little did he know his father already had other plans. He knew he wanted grandchildren while he could still play with them. If that was going to happen he had to do something.

Joseph Anderson has decided it’s time his three successful sons find brides. Joseph wants grandbabies to fill his huge mansion, and he wants them immediately. His eldest son Lucas is successful in all areas of his life except love, and Joseph begins matchmaking for his child. He finds Amy Harper and deems her the perfect daughter-in-law. He just needs to get her and Lucas to both realize that.

Lucas Anderson is wealthy, incredibly sexy, and stubborn. He has no desire to have any woman enter his life, causing chaos or using his family’s name. Many women have tried, and he’s been successful in finding out who they truly are underneath their false smiles.

Amy Harper was raised in tragic circumstances and doesn’t like pampered, rich men who have been handed everything with a silver spoon. She spent years finishing her education and was blessed to get a job with the famous Anderson Corporation. She instantly doesn’t like her incredibly sexy boss, who is arrogant and thinks every woman should fall at his feet.

When Amy becomes pregnant after one reckless night of passion with her boss, she is scared he will take the baby and run. Lucas finds out she is pregnant and immediately demands to do the right thing, and though Amy is backed into a corner, she in no way allows him to walk all over her.
